How to Prepare Your Dock and Watercraft for Severe Weather

Taking the right steps to protect your dock and watercraft from potential storm damage is essential. While not all storm impacts can be avoided, proper preparation can greatly reduce the risks and keep your property safe.

Move Your Boat if Possible

If you have the option, the safest approach is to relocate your boat or other watercraft to dry land. This removes the risk of damage caused by rough waters and high winds. However, if moving your boat isn’t an option, securing it in place is key. Use extra safety lines to ensure your watercraft stays as stable as possible throughout the storm.

Additional Tips for Dock and Boat Protection:

  • Secure Your Floating Dock: Make sure your dock is firmly tied to a permanent structure such as a piling, post, or sturdy tree. This will help keep it in place and prevent it from drifting or being damaged by rough waters.
  • Secure or Remove Loose Items: Take the time to remove or firmly secure any loose items on your dock or boat. Items like chairs, ropes, and equipment can easily become hazardous in strong winds or heavy rain, potentially damaging your dock or boat or even becoming lost.
  • Document Everything with Photos: Before the storm hits, be sure to take photos of the condition of your dock and watercraft. These images will be helpful for insurance purposes if you need to file a claim after the storm.

Stay Proactive and Stay Safe

Taking these precautions now can make all the difference in minimizing potential damage during severe weather. Stay safe, and if you have any questions or need assistance with storm preparations, feel free to contact us.

By following these simple but effective steps, you’ll be better equipped to protect your dock and boat as the storm approaches. Remember, being proactive can save you from costly repairs down the road.
